Better than the Original!

I played the original Submachine, and that took me three goes to beat it. The puzzle with the bells was more annoying than anything else, but the rest of the game was superb. I thought that, if there was a sequel, it would probably be a major letdown.

Man, was I wrong.

This game has everything going in its favor; the rich, creepy atmosphere created by both music and graphics (not to mention the diary entries, which are sorta creepy in their own rights), the diverse mind-bending puzzles... even the fact that you carry over the single diary page from the first game, which is then explained (!), is one neat idea. Plus, I like the "Ring"-like start that connects the two games. (Beat the first game, and you get trapped in the tower. This makes me rethink ever visiting the local arcade again.) Also, the videos lend a special touch to the whole thing.

I needed to look up a walkthrough to figure out the 4-number code, but aside from that, I got through it by myself. (Hint to other confused people: Think of Albert Einstein's famous equation. That's all I'll say.)

Entertaining.

Personally, I really enjoy games that follows its music when it comes to stiff happening (or vise versa, where the music goes beserk when you get in trouble or something). Anyway...

Graphics: 7/10. Simple, but that's a good thing for this game. The biggest complaint I have is the "ghosts" that you can't see when the background fades from white to black. A better idea for the transition would have been to, say, have it gradually fade over the entire song. Or, at that point, to have the black to slowly slide from the top to bottom of the screen. Just a friendly suggestion.
Style: 10/10. Everybody has a style.
Sound: 8/10. This isn't your fault, but the song is repetitive. To the extreme. Still, it's good.
Violence: 0/10. None to speak of, really. Not nessicarily a bad thing.
Interactivity: 10/10. It's a game, it has to be interactive, right?
Humor: 7/10. The behavior of the astertisks (bet I spelled that wrong) can be amusing.
Overall: 9/10. Hey, it's fun, and that's what it should be.

Graphics: 10/10. Stylish, fluid movement, minimalistic (when it comes to the characters).
Style: 10/10. The atmosphere of the game was suitably dark.
Sound: 10/10. BANGBANGBANG! BANG! BANGBANG! BANG!
Violence: 10/10. Yay, bloody carnage!
Interactivity: 10/10. Self-explanitory.
Humor: 8/10. I find the aforementioned bloody carnage funny and amusing. I'm weird, I know.

Overall: 10/10. Now let's go shoot someone's head in.

BANGBANGBANG!

Good concept...

This game has an interesting concept, buuuut it needs a bit of work still.

Graphics: 6/10. Bland, not much colour. The white background does help with finding the red dots, but otherwise...
Style: 8/10. The blandness didn't have much style, but the pop-outta-nowhere blocks did. ;)
Sound: 2/10. Pretty much nothing here, sound-wise. Music would make things more interesting, if just for diversity's sake.
Violence: 0/10. Whaddya expect? No violence isn't essentially a bad thing, though.
Interactivity: 10/10. It's a game. Interactivity is the whole point of a game.
Humor: 6/10. Once again, extreme blandness syndrome takes its toll. The pop-up blocks were amusing, though. :)
Overall: 7/10. A little more work, maybe re-do it or something, and this could be vastly more entertaining.

Hope my review helped. -R.S.

Ni-y-i-y-i-i-ice one.

This is... unique. But that's what makes it great.

Graphics: 10/10. How long did it take you to film yourself doing that?
Style: 10/10. It's a combo of video & (cheap-ish) flash. Like I said, unique!
Sound: 9/10. I liked your guitar solo. :)
Violence: 6/10. "You jumped into a sodding wall." "Your head a splode."
Interactivity: 8/10. Hey, you didn't give that many choices, but it's still neat.
Humor: 10/10. Reminded me of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy & Monty Python's all at once. "Is there any tea on this spaceship?"
Overall: 10/10. The humor (jokes, cheap aliens, and biscuits!) is what makes this a classic.

Now I will wait for the sequel, where the Aliens from Planet Bob come to steal our tea! :D

thanks for your comments :)

oh if only all NG people were as nice as you :(

One shot.

Fun game ya got here.

Graphics: 8/10. Very minimalistic. All the white helps make the black stick people stand out.
Style: 10/10. I especially like the last mission where when you shoot one guy, the other runs like hell to his pickup.
Sound: 10/10. Appropriate music, nice bang from the rifle.
Violence: 10/10. You shoot people in the head and watch them bleed all over the place. I find this funny.
Interactivity: 10/10. It's a game.
Humor: 7/10. I find blasting people heads off with a sniper rifle amusing.
Overall: 9/10. You need to read your intel carefully, have good aim and timing, and plan ahead. Just like a real sniper would. Figuring out how to take out targets wothout being caught is half the fun.

Nice one...

This is a just plain fun game, and one that had a lot of effort put into it. It shows.

Graphics: 9/10. The hand-drawn style art is very well done.
Style: 10/10. Everyone has their own style.
Sound: 8/10. Good music, repetitive punching sound effect. Oh well.
Violence: 10/10. It's a fighting game. If there's no violence, what's the point?
Interactivity: 10/10. Once again, it's a game. If it's not interactive, someone screwed up.
Humor: 9/10. You beat the crap out of little kids and teens. Look for your favorite stereotype, 'cuz it's here somewhere!
Overall: 9/10. Well put together game.

Oh, and the ninja kids are annoying. And some advice for beating Sunchips (the big guy at the end); punch him up in the air. Constantly. He can't attack while he's flying up and going splat on the ground...

Nice game!

Ok, a breakdown of my marks...

Graphics: 9/10. It's better lookin' than the original, even if the original, in my opinion, was more stylized. Still nice, though.
Style: 10/10. Everyone has their own style.
Sound: 8/10. The few effects here are done well.
Violence: 0/10. Unless you kill someone from frustration, but that's unrelated to this.
Interactivity: 10/10. It's a game. So...
Humor: 7/10. This isn't humor from the game, but rather from my ridiculing of anyone who screws it up horribly. I sound friendly, don't I?

Overall: 9/10. I've killed more time than I'm willing to admit with this. Good job!

I like people give me humor points.
I think level 27 pretty funny.

I had something meaningful in mind for this, but I lost it.
