Better than the Original!
I played the original Submachine, and that took me three goes to beat it. The puzzle with the bells was more annoying than anything else, but the rest of the game was superb. I thought that, if there was a sequel, it would probably be a major letdown.
Man, was I wrong.
This game has everything going in its favor; the rich, creepy atmosphere created by both music and graphics (not to mention the diary entries, which are sorta creepy in their own rights), the diverse mind-bending puzzles... even the fact that you carry over the single diary page from the first game, which is then explained (!), is one neat idea. Plus, I like the "Ring"-like start that connects the two games. (Beat the first game, and you get trapped in the tower. This makes me rethink ever visiting the local arcade again.) Also, the videos lend a special touch to the whole thing.
I needed to look up a walkthrough to figure out the 4-number code, but aside from that, I got through it by myself. (Hint to other confused people: Think of Albert Einstein's famous equation. That's all I'll say.)
